Zaanse Schans is a neighbourhood of Zaandam, a town not far from Amsterdam. It has a collection of well-preserved historic windmills and houses. From 1961 to 1974 old buildings from all over the Zaanstreek were relocated.

The Zaanse Schans is one of the popular tourist attractions of the Netherlands

The access for the open air museum is free, the wooden houses are mainly normal living houses. Most of the windmills can be visited for a small fee.

Volendam is a popular tourist attraction in the Netherlands, well known for its old fishing boats and the traditional clothing still worn by some residents. The women's costume of Volendam, with its high, pointed bonnet, is one of the most recognizable of the Dutch traditional costumes, and is often featured on tourist postcards and posters. If you fancy getting your photograph taken wearing the typical Volendam dress that is possible. It makes a truely great souvenir.

Volendam has nice restaurants and a stroll along the harbor will surely make for great memories.
